Embarrassed Prince Harry Welcomes Meghan Markle to New Home
Prince Harry recently expressed his mixed emotions as Meghan Markle entered their new residence in Montecito, California.
While he was excited to welcome her, he also felt a sense of embarrassment.
The couple's current mansion is a far cry from their former property in the UK, where they lived before stepping down from their roles as senior working royals.
After leaving behind their historic Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor State, which was gifted to them by the late queen, Harry and Meghan embarked on a new chapter in the United States.
However, they were only recently handed back the keys to their former home after being officially evicted earlier this year.
Interestingly, it seems that the couple initially had their sights set on a different property altogether.
They reportedly wanted to live in Windsor Castle itself and had requested the living quarters be made available to them after their marriage.
However, Harry's late grandmother firmly denied their request and instead offered them Frogmore Cottage, located nearby.
Royal author and historian Hugo Vickers revealed that there were empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments of Windsor Castle, which the Sussexes may have had access to.
However, it might not have been entirely appropriate for a young family to reside there.
The monarch politely suggested they live in Frogmore instead.
Before being gifted Frogmore Cottage, there were rumors that Meghan had her eye on the Wells, a countryside estate in Mahal.
It is said that she omitted this detail from Prince Harry's book, where he mentioned staying at William and Catherine's home during Christmas to avoid certain responsibilities.
Instead, Meghan was invited to spend Christmas at Sandringham with the queen, an unusual invitation considering they weren't married yet.
William and Catherine extended an invitation for them to stay at Amber Hall, providing them with their own space when needed.
While it would have been surprising if Harry and Meghan didn't stay with William and Catherine, it appears that Meghan found Anne Rahal, another residence, more impressive than Nottingham Cottage.
Despite being gifted the latter by the late Queen Elizabeth, Meghan expressed her preference for a grander abode.
In their Netflix series, the couple made a passing comment about Nottingham Cottage, highlighting its small size and low ceilings.
In his memoir, Harry strategically disregarded visits to William and Catherine's home, omitting them from his narrative.
By doing so, he maintained the victim narrative they were trying to convey.
However, the royal family had made significant efforts to make Meghan feel welcome, a fact that seemed to be overlooked until she had the wedding ring on her finger.
As Prince Harry and Meghan settle into their new Montecito mansion, they reflect on their journey from Frogmore Cottage to their current abode.
While their preferences and circumstances have evolved, their focus remains on building a life together in the United States.
