Duke of Sussex Reveals Introduction to Legal Specialist by Sir Elton John and David Furnish

The Duke of Sussex has recently disclosed that he was introduced to David Sherborne, a privacy and defamation specialist, by Sir Elton John and his husband, David Furnish.

This introduction took place during a holiday that and enjoyed with the couple in France.

When asked about when he first approached solicitors regarding a claim against the publisher, mentioned that it was actually Mr. Sherborne who had the idea.

He stated, “I didn't go to them.

I'd bumped into Mr. Sherborne in France.

It's in my book.”

In his memoir titled “Spare,” Prince Harry revealed that after a highly successful tour of South Africa in September 2019, he and Meghan felt confident and courageous.

They decided to use this moment to announce their intention to sue three British tabloids.

Their lawsuit was based on the tabloids' disgraceful conduct and long-standing practice of hacking into people's phones.

Prince Harry, 38, is currently suing Mirror Group Newspapers and GN for damages.

He claims that journalists at these publications, including the Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, were involved in phone hacking, deception to obtain information, and the use of private investigators for unlawful activities.

Prince Harry credits Elton John and David Furnish for introducing him to a barrister who had extensive knowledge about the phone hacking scandal.

The Duke expressed his gratitude, saying, “He'd shared with me his expertise, plus loads of open court evidence, and when I told him I wished there was something I could do with it, when I complained that we'd been blocked at every turn by the palace, he offered a breathtakingly elegant workaround.

Why not hire your own lawyer?”

Prince Harry admitted that the thought had never occurred to him before, but he promptly hired Mr. Sherborne.

During a recent hearing at the High Court, barrister Andrew Green KC questioned Prince Harry about how the claim had come about.

Green asked if he had sought legal advice before meeting Mr. Sherborne in France.

Prince Harry replied, “No, nothing at all.”

He confessed that he had not considered taking legal action before that meeting because he had never been shown any evidence.

According to him, all the evidence was kept within the palace, and he would never have been allowed to make a complaint.

Mr. Sherborne has represented notable clients in the past, including , actor Michael Douglas, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Colleen Rooney during the Wagatha Christie trial.

Sir Elton John settled a phone hacking claim against News Group Newspapers in 2019 and is currently part of a joint claim brought by Prince Harry and others, represented by Mr. Sherborne, against Associated Newspapers Limited.

The publisher denies these claims vigorously.

During the court proceedings, Mr. Green asked Prince Harry how he would feel if the court found that he had never been hacked by any journalist from Mirror Group.

Prince Harry responded, “I'm not entirely sure.

I believe that phone hacking was at an industrial scale at all three of the papers at the time, and that is without a doubt.”

He added that if the court didn't accept that hacking had occurred, it would feel like an injustice given that Mirror Group had already accepted hacking.
