Duchess of York Reveals Close Relationship with Queen Elizabeth II

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, entered the royal family in 1986 when she married .

Although their marriage ended in divorce in 1996, the Duchess has recently opened up about her relationship with II, referring to her as “Mama” behind closed doors.

In her memoirs, originally published in 1996, Fergie disclosed that her bond with the Queen remained consistent even after her separation from .

She revealed, “In private, I called her Mama.

When she waved me to sit next to her in the car or at church, I felt favored and blessed.”

This revelation sheds light on the previously reported strained relationship between Fergie and the Queen.

Despite the chaos surrounding Fergie's life in 1992, she emphasized that the Queen remained a constant presence.

“Through all the chaos of the past six months, the Queen and I had stayed consistent.

She still took my calls, and I still brought her grandchildren to Windsor for tea on Sundays,” Fergie wrote.

In 2007, Fergie further elaborated on her relationship with both and the Queen in an article for Harper's Bazaar.

She expressed her admiration for the Queen, stating, “The Queen and I always got on well, still do.

I uphold everything Her Majesty represents and has given up her life for.

It's her duty.

For her country, she's selfless to the grave.”

Fergie also defended the Queen's parenting skills, stating, “I believe Her Majesty's done the best job she can.

For me, she's been extraordinary.”

Addressing the time of her divorce, Fergie acknowledged that she had damaged her relationship with the Queen and the extended family more than anything else.

However, during a meeting with the Queen, Fergie surprised her by not demanding a big settlement.

Instead, she expressed her desire to maintain a friendship with Her Majesty and avoid any legal battles.

Fergie explained, “I wanted to be able to say, ‘Her Majesty is my friend,' not fight her nor have lawyers saying, ‘Look, she is greedy.'

I left my marriage knowing I'd have to work.

I have.”

In a 2016 interview with Channel 10, the former Weight Watchers ambassador reflected on her relationship with the Queen 20 years after her divorce.

Despite their separation, Fergie and Prince Andrew remain close, even living together.

With their daughter 's wedding at Windsor Castle in October, it is evident that there is still much to discuss with the Queen.
