Cheryl Crow and Elton John Roast Meghan Live at 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, an event typically filled with celebration and nostalgia, took a different turn for Meghan Markle.
The Duchess of Sussex, who was not in attendance, became the subject of jokes and sarcasm from two presenters.
Cheryl Crow and Elton John, who were inducted into the Hall of Fame for their solo careers, didn't hold back their comments, criticism, and disdain for the former royal.
Cheryl Crow took to the stage to perform some of her hits, including “All I Want to Do,” “If It Makes You Happy,” and “Enjoy This Sunday.”
Before singing her last song, she addressed the audience, saying, “This song is for Meghan Markle, who I'm sure is taking a shower in sunny California, while the rest of us are freezing in New York.”
She expressed her disappointment, stating that she used to admire Meghan as an independent woman standing up for what she believed in.
However, she now sees her as a selfish and manipulative liar who betrayed her family, country, and fans.
Cheryl Crow didn't mince her words, calling Meghan a fame-hungry opportunist who only cares about herself.
She concluded by saying that Meghan had burned all her bridges and would never be welcome again.
The crowd erupted in cheers and applause.
During her performance, Cheryl Crow seemed to mock Meghan's lifestyle with the lyrics of her song.
She sang, “I have a bad job.
It doesn't pay nearly enough to buy what's needed to win me a portion of your love.
Every time I turn around, you look up, you look down.
Maybe there's something wrong with you that makes you act like that.
Maybe I'm the same as you.
I just want to sunbathe.
I want to tell everyone to lighten up.
I will sunbathe.
I will be the number 45, so I can perform with Elton John.”
Elton John, who was being inducted for the second time as a solo artist, also voiced his disappointment and anger towards Meghan and Harry.
As someone who was once close friends with Princess Diana and attended Meghan and Harry's wedding in 2018, he felt personally hurt by their actions.
Elton John thanked everyone who supported him throughout his career but made it clear that Meghan Markle was not someone he could thank.
He referred to her as a traitor, a lowlife, a disgrace, a hypocrite, and a villain.
Elton John accused Meghan of lying to him, Harry, the Queen, and the world.
He claimed that she used him for fame and money, and her deception broke his heart, Harry's heart, Diana's heart, and the hearts of the royal family, the British people, and the world.
In Elton John's eyes, Meghan is a disgrace to the crown, the country, the Commonwealth, and humanity itself.
After his speech, Elton John performed a medley of his songs, including “I'm Still Standing,” “Rocketman,” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”
The lyrics of these songs seemed to contain subtle jabs at Meghan and Harry.
For example, in “I'm Still Standing,” Elton sang, “I'm still standing as strong as ever, looking like a real survivor, feeling like a small child, and I'm still standing after all this time, picking up the pieces of my life without you in my mind.”
These words appeared to reflect his resilience despite the pain caused by Meghan and Harry's actions.
It is clear that Cheryl Crow and Elton John used the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony as a platform to express their disappointment and anger towards Meghan Markle.
Their comments and performances left no doubt about their negative feelings towards her.
Whether Meghan will respond to these jabs or if this will further escalate tensions between her and the music industry remains to be seen.
