Camilla Unveils Personal Cipher as Queen Consort to King Charles III
Camilla, the Queen Consort to King Charles III, has revealed a special cipher in her honor at the age of 75.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday that this unique insignia was personally chosen by Camilla from a range of designs.
The cipher consists of Camilla's monogram, featuring the initial ‘C,' and ‘R' for Regina, which means Queen in Latin.
Below the monogram is a representation of the crown.
Similarly, Charles' cipher incorporates the initial of his first name and ‘R' for Rex, meaning King, along with the Roman numeral for three, symbolizing his position as the third King Charles.
The newly unveiled insignia will be utilized by the Queen Consort on personal letterheads, cards, gifts, and also on the cross she will lay at the Field of Remembrance ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend.
Professor Ewan Clayton, a calligrapher from the Royal Drawing School, collaborated with Timothy Node, Herald Painter and Scrivener at the College of Arms, to create Camilla's insignia.
This release follows the unveiling of Charles' sovereign symbol in September, which will gradually replace Queen Elizabeth's ER II insignia.
Some changes, palace officials note, will take place gradually, but the postmarks on all mail leaving Buckingham Palace have already been updated.
As the monarch, Charles' cipher will also appear on state documents and eventually on the iconic red mailboxes throughout the United Kingdom.
Additionally, government departments will use the cipher on their mail.
The design was selected by King Charles from a variety of options created by the College of Arms, the palace's heraldry experts.
