Rishi Sunak Opposes Stripping Royal Titles from Harry and Meghan

In the midst of mounting criticism towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there are growing calls for their titles to be revoked as they continue to target the royal family.

However, a bid to grant Parliament the authority to remove and 's titles encountered a setback today when the Prime Minister weighed in on the matter.

Labour MP Rachel Muskell recently introduced a bill that would empower Parliament to strip members of the royal family of their titles.

The bill is currently undergoing its second reading in the House of Commons.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister's official spokesperson announced today that Rishi Sunak does not support the proposed legislation.

Originally, Muskell's bill primarily focused on stripping the Duke of York of his titles.

However, subsequent demands have also emerged for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to be stripped of their titles.

This development coincides with the release of the first part of Meghan and Harry's six-part Netflix series, in which they continue to criticize the royal family.

Conservative MP Bob Seeley has raised concerns about the political implications of Harry's comments.

He intends to introduce potential legislation that could eventually lead to the couple being stripped of their royal titles.

Seeley argues that Harry's actions involve not only trashing his own family but also exploiting his personal struggles for public consumption.

Additionally, he claims that important institutions in the country are being targeted.

The Isle of Wight MP has suggested that he may introduce a short private member bill early next year.

If passed, this bill would allow MPs to vote on a resolution that could grant the Privacy Council the power to downgrade the royal status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In their documentary, Harry accused the royals of harboring significant unconscious bias, while Meghan claimed that the media sought to destroy her.

Employment Minister Guy Oberman has called for a public boycott of Netflix, dismissing the couple as entirely irrelevant.

He expressed his belief that they are a troubled couple and emphasized the importance of focusing on matters that truly impact the country and the royal family.

However, Oberman did acknowledge that the excessive media scrutiny the couple faced while living in the UK was unacceptable.

He recognized the ongoing debate surrounding the invasion of privacy by the media and the need to address the extent to which individuals' lives are dissected.

MP Rachel Maskell introduced the removal of title bill in June 2022.

This bill would grant the monarch new powers to remove titles or establish a parliamentary committee to determine whether titles should be revoked.

Maskell explained that the bill aims to address the concerns of the people of York regarding 's ties to the city.

She highlighted that the bill grants authority to both the monarch and Parliament to remove titles, recognizing that there may be occasions when holding a title is no longer appropriate.

In conclusion, the controversy surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continues to escalate as calls for their titles to be stripped persist.

Despite the bid to grant Parliament the power to remove their titles hitting an obstacle with Rishi Sunak's opposition, Conservative MP Bob Seeley plans to introduce legislation that could potentially lead to the couple losing their royal status.

As the public debate rages on, it remains to be seen how this contentious issue will be resolved.
