BAFTA Host David Tennant Criticizes Meghan Markle at 2024 Awards

David Tennant, the host of the 2024 BAFTA Awards, did not hold back in his criticism of during his opening monologue.

The star-studded event kicked off with Tennant humorously reenacting scenes from his popular pandemic series, “Staged,” alongside Michael Sheen.

In a playful scenario, Sheen asked Tennant to dog-sit his pet, Bark Ruffalo, on the same night as the BAFTAs.

Tennant attempted to pass the canine companion to various celebrity friends, including Stanley Tucci, Himesh Patel, Tom Hiddleston, and Judi Dench, but ended up bringing Bark Ruffalo along to the Royal Festival Hall in London himself.

Taking center stage, Tennant quipped that his monologue was excessively long, joking that the evening would run smoother than Ken's chest, a reference to a character portrayed by Ryan Gosling in the film “Barbie.”

This marked Tennant's debut as the BAFTAs host, succeeding last year's presenter, Richard E. Grant.

However, it was Tennant's scathing remarks about that stole the spotlight at the awards ceremony.

Known for his sharp wit and candid humor, Tennant openly criticized 's wife for her perceived rudeness and disloyalty towards the royal family and the British public.

Describing Meghan as a wannabe royal with a polished facade, Tennant called out her alleged hypocrisy, arrogance, and ambition.

He suggested that Meghan's persona might not be as well-received in the United States as she might have hoped.

Tennant painted a picture of a scenario where the BAFTAs could have been a conflicting experience for Meghan, torn between the allure of adoration and the constraints of royal expectations.

He implied that Meghan may have envisioned herself on the prestigious stage, both as an actress and a princess, but felt hindered by the traditional norms and expectations of the monarchy.

In Tennant's view, Meghan's attempt to straddle two worlds ultimately led to her downfall.

In a separate development, Meghan Markle faced criticism from PR expert Laura Perks following the rebranding of Sussex.com.

Perks advised Meghan to appear more relatable in her public appearances to avoid being perceived as overly self-absorbed.

Citing feedback on Meghan's Archetypes podcast, Perks emphasized the importance of showcasing a softer, more authentic side to resonate with audiences.

Drawing parallels to Meghan's role on “Suits,” Perks highlighted the appeal of the character Rachel due to her relatability, contrasting it with Meghan's public image as a duchess and Hollywood star.

Ultimately, the consensus among critics and industry insiders is that Meghan Markle could benefit from revealing a more genuine and approachable side to her persona.

By shifting away from the polished facade of royalty and celebrity, Meghan may find greater acceptance and connection with the public.

As the debate surrounding Meghan's public image continues, experts like Perks underscore the importance of authenticity and relatability in shaping public perception.
