Amal’s Generosity Backfires: Controversy Surrounds Second-Hand Flowers Donated to Cancer Patients
Amal, a well-known figure in the entertainment industry, is facing backlash after it was revealed that she donated second-hand flowers to cancer patients, resulting in allergic reactions.
This incident comes on the heels of her extravagant New York baby shower, which sparked criticism for its excessive cost and lavishness.
In an attempt to redeem herself, Amal decided to donate the flowers from her baby shower to a charity that distributes second-hand flowers to hospices and children's wards.
However, the sight of droopy flowers being given to children in hospital only added to the negative publicity.
The baby shower, organized by Amal's close friends, took place in New York City in 2019.
Following the event, Amal and her friends arranged for the entire floral display to be donated to charity.
Jennifer Grove, CEO of Repeat Roses, an organization that recycles florals from events, received emails from Amal, requesting the delivery of these flowers to bring joy to people in hospitals and care centers.
It was later revealed that the flowers were gifted to pediatric cancer patients at Ronald McDonald House Charities of New York, as well as to cancer patients at Hope Lodge and individuals receiving care at Unique People Services.
However, the President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Kelly Dolan, expressed her anger upon learning the source of the flowers donated by Amal.
Dolan criticized Amal's use of second-hand flowers, deeming it careless and disrespectful to the patients.
Furthermore, most children's hospitals have strict policies against allowing flowers in patient rooms due to potential allergies.
Even a small amount of unfamiliar pollen can trigger allergic reactions, causing respiratory issues for children.
Manager Miller, who was involved in the event, gave credit to others who contributed, joking about the dessert buffet and praising the efforts of Repeat Roses.
However, an inside source revealed that Amal's team was warned after the incident, and all the flowers were promptly removed from the hospital.
It seems that Amal's well-intentioned gesture had unintended consequences, leaving some of the famous individuals she had invited to participate, such as Amar Clooney, feeling deceived.
Amar, who arrived early to lend a hand at the event, was unaware that the flowers were second-hand.
In addition to Amar Clooney, several of Amal's close friends, including Serena Williams, Abigail Spencer, and Jessica Mulroney, attended the event at the Mark Hotel.
Amar, donning a stunning red silk jumpsuit designed by Sergio Hudson, looked flawless despite the snowy weather.
However, this event is likely one that Amar would prefer to forget.
Following the incident, female lawyers decided to distance themselves from Amal and reaffirm their allegiance to the British Royal Family and charity events.
This is not the first time Amal has donated flower arrangements.
After her wedding to Prince Harry, the flowers that adorned St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle were sent to St Joseph's Hospice in London.
