Queen Elizabeth Celebrates 95th Birthday with Heartwarming Photo and Messages of Support
Queen Elizabeth marked her 95th birthday on April 21st with a touching photo and an update on herself following the recent loss of her beloved husband, Prince Philip.
This is the first birthday the Queen has celebrated without her husband of 73 years, who passed away on April 9th, with his funeral taking place on April 17th.
Although no official new photographs were released on this occasion, Buckingham Palace shared a lovely photo on the Royal Family's social media accounts.
The picture shows the Queen looking radiant in a plum coat and hat during a Royal engagement last February.
The post also confirmed that Her Majesty is currently at Windsor Castle, grieving for her late husband.
In a show of solidarity, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, all re-shared the post on their own social media pages instead of posting separate birthday messages.
The caption read, “Today is the Queen's 95th birthday.
The Queen was born at 2.40am on the 21st of April 1926 at 17 Burton Street in Mayfair, London.
She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
This year Her Majesty remains at Windsor Castle during a period of royal mourning following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.”
Royal fans seized the opportunity to send their well wishes to the monarch and offer messages of comfort.
One Twitter user wrote, “We'd like to wish Queen Elizabeth II a happy 95th birthday.
In the toughest of times, we hope Her Majesty has a perfect day with loved ones.
We send our thoughts and best wishes.”
Another follower expressed, “Your Majesty, thinking of you today and wishing you a happy birthday as is possible during this deeply sad time for you.
Thinking of you, Your Majesty, on your birthday, but also while you are in mourning, all God's blessings.”
A fourth added, “Wishing you a happy birthday, Your Majesty.
Hope you try and have a lovely day.
Sending you lots of love.
Kiss kiss.”
The Queen's birthday comes just days after the royal family bid a sad farewell to Prince Philip, who passed away at the age of 99.
The funeral, held at Windsor Castle, was unlike any other due to cruel coronavirus restrictions.
In images that shocked the world, the monarch sat isolated and alone during the service.
Traditionally, the Queen's birthday passes off with little or no ceremony, and this year will be no exception.
There will be no gun salutes at the Tower of London or Hyde Park, which usually occur on her birthday.
The Queen's official birthday, celebrated with greater pomp, usually takes place on the second Saturday in June.
However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, it is believed that Her Majesty will enjoy a quiet lunch with close family members at Windsor Castle, likely outdoors in accordance with current rules.
For the rest of the day, the Queen is expected to maintain her usual routine.
She will be surrounded by the small number of staff who make up her bubble at the castle.
To ensure she is not left alone, the family has agreed on a rota to visit her over the coming days.
Among the Queen's first visitors are reported to be Prince Anne, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Lady Pamela Hicks (the Queen's childhood friend), and Angela Kelly (her royal dresser).
Prince Andrew and Princess Eugenie are also scheduled to visit in the coming days.
In a heartwarming gesture, it is reported that the Queen will have a video call with her great-grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to mark her birthday.
Additionally, sources suggest that she will likely drive herself down to Frogmore to walk her new puppies, Fergus and Muick, who have been a source of comfort since Prince Philip's passing.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has already sent his warm wishes to the Queen, expressing his admiration for her service to the country and the Commonwealth.
As the world continues to mourn the loss of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth finds solace in the support and love of her family, friends, and well-wishers on this bittersweet day.
