Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is expected to be granted the prestigious title of Duchess of Edinburgh, a move that has left feeling envious.

Sophie, 57, who is married to , the Queen's youngest son, had a close relationship with her late mother-in-law, even referring to the monarch as “Mama.”

Since the Queen's passing, the Countess has been seen attending several memorial services, appearing somber and tearful.

With the recent death of , it is now speculated that Edward, 58, may inherit his father's former title, the Duke of Edinburgh, making Sophie a Duchess.

Initially, the title was passed on to Charles, who has since become King.

However, the decision ultimately lies with the new King, as reported by the Telegraph.

It is said that expressed his desire for Edward to inherit the title, and III has agreed to honor these wishes.

Currently, Edward is the only one of the Queen's sons without a dukedom.

While it is believed that Charles will keep his promise to his late father, Edward has expressed some doubts in the past.

He mentioned in an interview with the BBC, “Of course, it will depend on whether or not the Prince of Wales, when he becomes King, whether he'll do that, so we'll wait and see.

So yes, it will be quite a challenge taking that on.”

Edward and Sophie have been present at several of the Queen's memorial services, offering support to their family members.

During one of these services, Sophie was seen comforting her sister-in-law, Princess Annette, as they watched the Queen's coffin being carried into the Palace of Hollerood House in Edinburgh.

Following the procession, the Queen's coffin was brought to Buckingham Palace, where several senior royals awaited her arrival.

Sophie stood by her husband's side as they joined the royal family in escorting the Queen's coffin down Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

The deeply solemn procession covered a distance of 1,200 yards, with hundreds of well-wishers lining the streets to pay their respects.

Sophie, dressed in a black suit and matching headpiece, walked alongside her fellow royals during the procession.

Behind them, members of the monarchy followed in cars.

The crowd cheered and applauded, expressing their support and loyalty to the King.

Sophie has been open about her personal struggles, having previously shared her experience of a tragic miscarriage in 2001.

In addition, she spoke about the loss of her mother during a speech at the Women's Institute annual meeting in June 2021.
