Meghan Markle Slams Hollywood for Perpetuating Negative Stereotypes in Podcast

In a recent episode of her podcast Archetypes, , the former Suits actress, criticized the entertainment industry that she had once aspired to be a part of.

Markle expressed her frustration with Hollywood, claiming that she had been labeled as hysterical and crazy, and that these irrational stereotypes of women have been perpetuated by television.

Markle's bitterness stems from the fact that Hollywood never fully embraced her, even during her time on Suits.

Unlike many others in the industry, she did not commute back and forth between Toronto and Los Angeles, but instead became a full-time resident of Toronto.

Despite her triumphant return to Hollywood with by her side and the worldwide recognition that came with it, she still did not receive the glory she believed she deserved.

This has left her angry and determined to challenge the status quo.

During her latest podcast episode, Markle asked her listeners to raise their hands if they had ever been called crazy or hysterical.

She highlighted the prevalence of such labels in our culture, emphasizing that many of us have experienced this kind of judgment.

Markle specifically targeted two television shows, How I Met Your Mother and Scrubs, for their portrayal of negative stereotypes.

Markle played a clip from How I Met Your Mother featuring Neil Patrick Harris' character Barney, who said, “If she's this crazy, she has to be this hot.”

She also referenced a line from conservative philosopher Jordan Peterson.

In Scrubs, Markle quoted Sarah Chalk's character Carla, who exclaimed, “I can't take it, Carla.

Cannot hide the crazy a minute longer.

I'm just this big mountain of cuckoo is about to erupt and spew molten crazy all over him and he's gonna die like this.”

Markle argued that lines like these perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

She called out popular shows and movies such as Austin Powers, Kill Bill, and How I Met Your Mother for their negative portrayals.

By doing so, she indirectly criticized a large portion of the American population that enjoys these films and shows, accusing them of supporting racism and sexism.

However, some critics argue that Markle's criticism is selective.

They point out that she fails to call out shows like Deal or No Deal, which objectify women, or Suits, where her primary role was to play an overly sexualized and unprofessional character opposite a white male.

This has led to her losing favor within Hollywood.

Just last week, a studio head publicly advised Markle against trying to instill a cancel culture in the entertainment industry.

Some even wonder when Hollywood will turn the tables and “cancel” her.

One Reddit user described Markle's podcast as shallow and accused her of gaslighting others.

They claimed that Markle lacks self-awareness and fails to connect with people on a deeper level, often twisting their words to suit her own narrative.

's critique of Hollywood highlights the ongoing debate surrounding negative stereotypes in the entertainment industry.

While some applaud her for speaking out against harmful portrayals, others question her motives and accuse her of hypocrisy.

As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen how Hollywood will respond to Markle's criticisms and whether her influence will ultimately lead to any meaningful change.
