Jessica Mulroney Supports Meghan Markle Amidst Controversy
Jessica Mulroney, a close friend of Meghan Markle, has broken her silence in a subtle show of support following the recent controversies surrounding the former royal.
The pair seemed to have drifted apart after Mulroney faced backlash for her so-called white privilege and was subsequently cancelled by her employer, ABC, where she worked as a fashion contributor for Good Morning America.
However, after months of staying silent about Meghan and Harry's attacks against the royal family, Mulroney, who is based in Toronto and works as a stylist, shared a series of sweet throwback photos of her and Meghan.
It has been rumored that Jessica used to provide Meghan with free dresses to wear, and there were even allegations that they would bill Prince Charles' office for these clothes, which they had obtained for free, and split the proceeds.
It is worth noting that Prince Charles used to cover the expenses of both his sons' households using funds from the Duchy of Cornwall.
On a separate note, the Middletons, who are Catherine's family, have always paid their own way.
They even paid for Catherine's wedding dress and contributed to the cost of the royal wedding.
William, being aware of his future in-laws' financial responsibility and discretion, knew they were not freeloaders.
Meghan Markle has also faced scrutiny for allegedly breaking rules regarding accepting gifts during her time as a member of the royal family.
According to official palace guidelines, members of the royal family should never accept presents that could potentially place them under any obligation to the donor.
In his memoir, Prince Harry mentioned that Meghan would share the freebies she received, including clothes, perfumes, and makeup, with the women in the office.
This is not the first time questions have been raised about Meghan accepting gifts while fulfilling her royal duties.
Camilla Tominey, an expert writing in the Telegraph, mentioned that when Meghan first entered the scene, she expected to keep some of the dresses that had been loaned to her.
Rumors circulated that one reason Erdem, a fashion brand, prioritized Catherine's orders over Meghan's was because Meghan failed to return an Erdem dress that had been loaned to her for the 2017 Invictus Games.
In his book “Courtiers,” royal author Valentin Lowe claimed that clashes between Meghan and her assistant, Melissa Tubati, revolved around the issue of free gifts from companies.
Tubati was apparently strict in adhering to the household rule that members of the royal family cannot accept freebies from commercial organizations.
Meghan did not take kindly to this approach, and it is easy to imagine that she likely demanded Harry allow her to have what she wanted.
There were also reports in 2021, as reported by The Sun, that palace aides informed Meghan that keeping clothes sent by fashion labels went against royal protocol, which led to disagreements.
As an actress, it was acceptable for Meghan to receive freebies from fashion chains and designer labels.
However, she had to be informed that such practices were not appropriate when she became a member of the royal family.
While Prince Harry may have sought to highlight his wife's generosity in accepting freebies, his memoir inadvertently confirmed reports that Meghan had indeed broken royal rules.
Camilla Tominey remarked that if these reports were true, it would constitute a serious breach of the rules regarding receiving and registering gifts.
Royal commentator Daniela Elsa, writing for News.com UK, argued that accepting a free cashmere jumper or scented item may not be a major offense.
However, this situation highlights the apparent disconnect between the Duchess' perception of royal life and the protocols of the palace.
