Harry and Meghan Visit 9/11 Memorial and Face Criticism Over Netflix Deal
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were recently spotted touring the 9/11 memorial with a videographer and photographer.
The couple also paid a visit to the Harlem Soul Food Restaurant, Melba Friday.
Photos shared online showed Harry wearing a wire around his neck, suggesting that he was connected to a microphone for filming purposes.
About a year ago, Harry and Meghan signed a lucrative deal with streaming giant Netflix, estimated to be worth around £100 million.
As part of the agreement, they will develop various types of content, including scripted and unscripted series, films, documentaries, and children's programming.
So far, they have announced two projects: “Harry's Heart of Invictus,” which focuses on the Invictus Games, and “Meghan's Pearl,” an animated TV show for children.
However, their partnership with Netflix has faced criticism.
Some have pointed out that the streaming giant was responsible for the controversial drama series “The Crown,” which portrayed some members of the royal family in an unflattering light.
More recently, the release of the musical “Diana” on Netflix has drawn negative attention.
Royal commentator Dan Wooten criticized the musical, calling it the most offensive and degrading portrayal of Princess Diana since her death in 1997.
He accused Netflix of tarnishing the legacy of the Princess of Wales by depicting her as a pop music-loving airhead.
Wooten urged Harry to stop working with Netflix in protest against the drama and its disrespectful portrayal of his mother.
He highlighted Harry's previous battles against media organizations that exploited Diana's memory, emphasizing the irony of Netflix doing the same.
A recent poll conducted by the Mail on Sunday revealed that Prince Harry's popularity is not as high as his father, Prince Charles, and brother, Prince William.
Only 30% of respondents held a positive opinion of Harry, compared to 42% for Charles and 61% for William.
However, Harry topped the list of royals that respondents would most like to have a drink with, receiving 19% of the vote and surpassing his brother by 4%.
Despite this, royal commentator Neil Sean claimed that Harry and Meghan are more popular than ever in the United States and certain parts of Europe.
He suggested that they will focus on these regions as they relaunch themselves in the coming weeks.
In other news, Prince Harry reportedly warned the Kaiser Chiefs not to share a photo of them together, taken backstage at one of the band's gigs.
According to the band's frontman Ricky Wilson, Harry told him not to post the picture anywhere.
While Ricky didn't know if Harry was joking, he respected the request and never shared the photo.
Looking ahead, Prince Harry is set to release a tell-all book next year, promising a truthful and accurate account of his life thus far.
Since stepping back from his royal duties and moving to the U.S. with Meghan, Harry has been open about his strained relationship with his father, Prince Charles.
In interviews with Oprah Winfrey and on the Apple TV series “The Me You Can't See,” Harry discussed his father's alleged refusal to take his calls and financial cut-off.
Author Andrew Morton, known for his biography on Harry's mother Princess Diana, believes that Charles could once again be targeted in Harry's upcoming book.
There are growing concerns within Buckingham Palace that Harry may reveal the identity of the family member who made racist remarks about Archie's skin color.
During their interview with Oprah, Harry and Meghan disclosed that a senior royal had made such comments while Meghan was pregnant but did not disclose the individual's name.
As the anticipation builds for Prince Harry's book, the royal family braces for potential revelations and further strain on their public image.
