Following their Christmas celebrations and the release of a new photo featuring , the Cambridge family had yet another reason to rejoice: Kate's 40th birthday.

Amidst the festivities, Prince William and have reportedly come to terms with the strained relationship between them and and .

Andrew Neill, the former chair of GB News, shared during a Channel 5 documentary titled “2021: The Queen's Terrible Year” that Kate and William have accepted the fractured state of their relationship with Harry.

This revelation comes two years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step back from their royal duties and pursue financial independence while continuing to support the Queen.

Since then, they have settled in Santa Barbara, California, with their two children, Archie and .

Andrew Neill further revealed in the documentary that Prince William and Kate have acknowledged that their relationship with Harry is irreparable, at least for the foreseeable future.

Consequently, they have chosen to go their separate ways.

Although Harry has returned to the UK from the US and has had two separate meetings with William, the relationship remains strained.

One of these encounters was during the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip, in April 2021, which Meghan was unable to attend due to her advanced pregnancy with their second child, .

In light of Kate's 40th birthday, Kensington Palace released three new portraits of the Duchess of Cambridge, taken by Italian photographer Paolo Reversi in November.

Interestingly, Prince William and their three children, Prince George, , and , played a role in selecting one of the photographs to share with the world.

The chosen image showcases Kate's radiant smile as she poses in a one-shoulder dress with her hair cascading over her shoulders.

According to the photographer, it captures the essence of a carefree girl.

These new portraits will become part of the National Portrait Gallery's permanent collection and will be displayed throughout 2022 in three locations significant to Kate: Berkshire, St Andrews, and Anglesey.

Berkshire holds sentimental value for Kate as it is where she grew up in the quiet village of Bucklebury.

She frequently returns to spend time with her parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, who still reside there.

St Andrews is an important place for both Kate and Prince William, as it is where they first met as university freshmen in 2002.

Lastly, Anglesey is where the couple lived after their royal wedding in 2011.

They resided in an isolated cottage while William underwent Royal Air Force training nearby.

In 2013, they moved to Kensington Palace with their eldest child, Prince George.

As Prince William resumes his royal duties, the future of the relationship between the Cambridge and Sussex families remains uncertain.

However, for now, it seems that they have accepted the fractured state of their bond and are focusing on their respective paths.
