During the podcast, Prince William candidly admitted that he struggled to find the perfect birthday gift for Kate.

It was their first birthday celebration together, and he wanted to make it special.

However, he found himself at a loss for ideas.

After considering various options that seemed inappropriate, he made an unexpected and unfortunate choice.

The prince decided to give Kate a pair of binoculars.

Prince William himself admits that he has no idea why he thought binoculars would be a suitable gift.

At the time, it seemed like a good idea, but Kate did not appreciate it as expected.

She interpreted the gift as a mockery, assuming that Prince William was making fun of her lack of interest in birdwatching and peeping into other people's windows.

This misunderstanding almost became the end of their relationship.

According to Prince William, Kate held a grudge against him for a long time because of the ill-fated gift.

He even believes that she still hasn't completely forgiven him.

However, luck was on his side, as Kate eventually shrugged off the binoculars incident as a silly joke.

Today, they are happily married with three children.

Nevertheless, on her subsequent birthdays, Kate never fails to remind her husband of the infamous gift, playfully ridiculing his past mistake.

Prince William learned his lesson from this experience and has since made sure to shower Kate with more thoughtful and extravagant gifts.

In 2005, he presented her with a rose gold ring adorned with pearls and garnet.

This gift holds symbolic meaning, as pearls represent the prince's family stone, while garnet represents the Middleton family.

For their engagement, Kate received Princess Diana's iconic 18-carat sapphire ring, surrounded by 14 diamonds.
