King Charles Removes Harry and Meghan’s HRH Titles on Official Royal Family Website
In a significant blow to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles have been removed from the Royal Family's official website. This comes three years after the couple's departure from their royal duties, commonly referred to as Megxit. Following their decision to relocate to the United States in January 2020, it was announced by the palace that they would no longer utilize their HRH titles as they stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family.
The official statement, issued on January 18th, 2020, clearly stated, “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.” As a result, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, is now listed without the HRH title on the Royal Family's website. Furthermore, both Harry and Meghan Markle's names have been relocated to the bottom of the family's main page, just above Prince Andrew, who has faced his own controversies.
It is speculated that Prince Harry's insistence on being referred to as HRH during his testimony in a London court in June may have led to this change on the website. The couple had previously promised the Royal Family that they would not use their HRH standings. With King Charles assuming a more prominent role, this move serves as another message to Harry and Meghan that their previous privileges will not be reinstated.
This development also undermines the speculations surrounding the couple's potential return to Kensington Palace. Their hopes of a successful Hollywood career were also dampened when their $20 million podcast deal with Spotify fell through, with one high-ranking executive labeling them as “grifters” due to their lack of commitment to the project. Additionally, their recent Netflix tell-all failed to receive any Emmy recognition, leaving the couple disappointed.
The attention and financial support they received were largely fueled by Harry's royal status, leading people to invest in their projects with high hopes. However, an insider close to the couple acknowledged that their recent business ventures have been met with disappointment, stating, “It's like they built a house with no foundation. The royal element and the surrounding drama inflated the price, the deals, and the expectations.”
Ironically, their criticisms of the monarchy seem to be having the opposite effect, as interest in the institution has been reignited worldwide. Lady Colin Campbell, a royal commentator, believes that Harry and Meghan's anti-monarchy stance has inadvertently boosted the Windsor brand by highlighting the exemplary behavior of the rest of the family in contrast to their own actions. She stated, “I actually think Harry and Meghan have helped the monarchy in a perverse sort of way because they've focused attention on the work and the exemplary behavior of the rest of the family.”
Fellow royal writer Phil Dampier echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the stark contrast between the couple and the rest of the family. He expressed his astonishment at the immense worldwide interest in the royals, which he believes presents an opportunity for increased financial gains. Dampier suggested that the royal residences, such as Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, and Balmoral, could potentially be turned into museums, generating more revenue for the country.
While Harry and Meghan's attempts to distance themselves from the monarchy may have backfired, their actions have inadvertently sparked a renewed interest in the British royal family. As King Charles assumes his role, the future holds potential for financial growth and a brighter outlook, provided it is managed effectively.
