Meghan Markle Humiliated as Dusseldorf Waiter Mistakes Her for Harry’s Staff
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, faced an embarrassing moment during a recent outing with her husband, Prince Harry.
The couple was celebrating Harry's 39th birthday at a restaurant in Dusseldorf when a waiter completely ignored Meghan, mistaking her for a member of Harry's staff.
Meghan, who had already changed her outfit twice that day, donned a £268 red and white pinstriped shirt from the California-inspired brand Doan.
She paired it with the same white skinny jeans she had worn earlier to attend a sitting volleyball match.
Her choice of footwear was a previously worn pair of beige suede flat pumps from Mandolo Blanique, adorned with a delicate bow detail.
The couple chose the I'm Golden restaurant in Kessel, part of the Schumacher brewery, as the venue for their celebratory dinner.
During the course of the evening, I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Thea Ungerman, and the waiter, Frank Wackers, who served the Duke and Duchess's table.
In our conversation, some interesting details emerged.
Frank, a 27-year-old waiter, confessed that he didn't possess much knowledge about the royal family.
Initially, he only recognized Prince Harry, thanks to his distinctive ginger hair.
Interestingly, he failed to realize that the person walking alongside Harry was Meghan Markle, the famous former actress.
Frank assumed she was an assistant to the group.
The couple appeared relaxed throughout the evening, enjoying the locally brewed Schumacher beer.
The same beer, incidentally, that was being served at the Invictus Games.
The Duke and Duchess sat next to each other during the meal, creating a casual and comfortable atmosphere.
Speaking about the experience, Frank shared, “I had goosebumps when they walked into the restaurant.
I had watched Harry's speech on the stage at the Invictus Games and couldn't believe he was in my restaurant.”
Frank was particularly touched by Prince Harry's warmth, as he received a hug from the Duke.
He also mentioned that Meghan's simple attire made it difficult to identify her initially.
At the end of the evening, the couple graciously posed for photographs with the staff.
They happily shared these images with the Mail Online.
Thea Ungerman, the restaurant owner, described Prince Harry as a lovely man who appeared to be thoroughly enjoying himself.
During the meal, Harry was presented with a birthday cake by the restaurant staff.
The menu included traditional German dishes such as wiener schnitzel, pork knuckle, sausage, and plates of roast and mashed potatoes.
However, it seemed that Meghan focused solely on the salad and did not partake in the protein dishes.
In the end, she left some of her food unfinished.
The owner of the restaurant revealed that Prince Harry took care of the bill and left a generous tip for the staff.
Considering the cost of a small beer in an upscale establishment, which is typically around €4, a typical tip from a German citizen would range from €26 to €27.
A more frugal individual might leave €25, while a very generous person might round up to €30.
However, anything above €30 would be considered an unusually large tip.
In this case, Prince Harry's tip was not disclosed, but it was described as a “pleasant amount” by Mr. Wackers.
The owner emphasized that a tip exceeding €30 would be considered extraordinary, while anything between €30 and €100 would be deemed gigantic.
