Meghan Markle Furious as Piers Morgan Clears Complaint Against Him, May Seek Legal Action
Meghan Markle is reportedly seething with anger after broadcasting regulator Ofcom cleared Piers Morgan of her complaint against him.
According to royal expert Angela Levin, the Duchess of Sussex is considering involving her lawyers in the matter following Ofcom's ruling that the former Good Morning Britain host was entitled to express his opinions about her during a heated debate.
This decision in favor of free speech has left Meghan frustrated, especially after her attempt to have Piers fired failed.
Earlier this year, Piers Morgan left his presenting role on Good Morning Britain after expressing doubt about Meghan's claims during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Duchess stated that her concerns about her mental health were ignored, and she alleged that racist comments were made before the birth of her son, Archie.
Piers openly stated that he did not believe her.
Ofcom confirmed that they had received an official complaint from Meghan regarding Morgan's comments.
While acknowledging that his remarks were potentially harmful and offensive, Ofcom ruled that Good Morning Britain did not breach the broadcasting code.
This decision has left Meghan Markle, known for her compassion and understanding, furious.
Angela Levin, a royal biographer, expressed her belief that Meghan will struggle with the verdict.
Levin stated, “I think she will be absolutely livid and she'll ask her lawyers to see what they can do about it.
She can't cope with someone saying she didn't tell the truth.
Because she is all about compassion and understanding and caring for people.”
During the controversial interview between Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan discussed her struggles with mental health and suicidal thoughts, as well as the knowledge royal officials had of these issues.
Piers Morgan responded by stating, “I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she says.
I wouldn't believe her if she read me a weather report.”
In its ruling, Ofcom acknowledged that the program contained potentially harmful and offensive statements about suicide, mental health, and race.
However, they deemed that the program provided sufficient challenge and context to viewers, ultimately concluding that it did not breach the broadcasting code.
An Ofcom spokesperson commented on the decision, stating, “This was a finely balanced decision.
Mr. Morgan's comments were potentially harmful and offensive to viewers, and we recognize the strong public reaction to them.
But we also took full account of freedom of expression.”
They also reminded ITV to exercise greater caution when discussing mental health and suicide in future content.
Piers Morgan celebrated the Ofcom ruling as a victory for free speech, tweeting, “I'm delighted Ofcom has endorsed my right to disbelieve the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's incendiary claims to Oprah Winfrey, many of which have proven to be untrue.
This is a resounding victory for free speech and a resounding defeat for Princess Pinocchio's.
Do I get my job back?”
It is worth noting that the episode of Good Morning Britain where Piers made his comments became the most complained-about TV moment in Ofcom's history, with a staggering 54,453 complaints.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not issued an official statement regarding the Ofcom ruling.
Despite the outcome, it is clear that this controversy surrounding Meghan Markle and Piers Morgan will continue to generate intense public interest and debate.
