Duchess Sophie Champions STEM and Sight Awareness in Recent Engagements
In a whirlwind of royal engagements, the Duchess of Edinburgh has been making headlines with her commitment to empowering young women and raising awareness for eye health.
On October 5, she made a notable visit to the Brooklyn's Motor Museum in Surrey, where she engaged in a fascinating conversation with astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
This initiative is part of her ongoing mission to inspire girls and young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This visit comes on the heels of her recent appointment as the patron of Girlguiding, the largest organization in the UK dedicated exclusively to girls.
The Duchess's involvement was officially announced earlier this week, marking a new chapter in her royal duties.
She steps into a role previously held by the late Queen Elizabeth II since 1953, signaling a continued royal commitment to supporting young women.
Since becoming a member of the royal family in 1999, Sophie has taken on numerous responsibilities, often stepping in to assist the King and Queen during significant events.
As the Princess of Wales focuses on her recovery and the King undergoes treatment for his illness, Sophie has ramped up her public engagements, completing nearly 40 last month alone, compared to just 18 in September.
Looking ahead, the Duchess has a special appearance lined up on CBeebies Bedtime Story, scheduled for October 10.
This episode coincides with World Sight Day, a cause close to her heart.
Sophie is passionate about combatting preventable blindness and advocating for those experiencing vision loss.
During her segment, she will read “Spex for Rex,” a charming tale about a young lion hesitant to wear his glasses at school.
In a promotional teaser for the show, Sophie shared a poignant message: “Millions of us require glasses to view the world clearly.
Whether or not we need glasses, World Sight Day serves as a reminder for all of us to take good care of our eyes.” Her words resonate deeply, emphasizing the importance of eye health and the value of our sight.
On the same day as her visit to the motor museum, the 59-year-old Duchess also attended a ceremony in Wiltshire, where she presented medals to soldiers from the 5th Battalion, the Rifles, who had recently returned from a successful NATO tour.
As a royal colonel in the battalion, Sophie's presence underscores her support for the armed forces and the sacrifices made by service members.
Dressed elegantly in a black and pink Kristen Floral Jackward midi dress by Erdem, Sophie radiated grace and poise.
