Set against the picturesque backdrop of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, the King and Queen were joined by none other than the Princess Royal, Anne, and her husband, Sir Timothy Lawrence.

Sibling camaraderie was evident as they shared lighthearted moments and laughter, reminiscing about their beloved mother.

For Queen Elizabeth II, the Braemar Gathering was more than just an annual spectacle.

It was a cherished tradition she rarely missed.

However, last year, the world anxiously awaited her presence, as she was unable to attend due to health concerns.

Unfortunately, less than a week later, she passed away, leaving an irreplaceable void.

The Highland Games have a rich history, dating back almost a thousand years, with its modern form tracing its roots back nearly two centuries.

Even when she couldn't attend due to health reasons, , then Prince of Wales, often accompanied the late Queen to this grand event.

The Braemar Gathering attracts visitors from around the world and showcases competitors from Scotland, England, Australia, and America.

Its schedule features a series of traditional Scottish games, including the awe-inspiring Caber Tossing and the exhilarating Tug of War, all taking place at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Braemar.

Every year, on the first Saturday in September, this small Scottish village transforms into a hub of tradition and festivity, drawing thousands of enthusiastic spectators to witness one of Scotland's most vibrant and enduring traditions.

In a fitting tribute to the occasion, King Charles made a dashing appearance in a kilt made from the newly created King Charles III tartan, while Queen wore an elegant ensemble by Mr. Roy.

The Scottish Tartan's Authority described the tartan's significance, highlighting its design to commemorate the coronation and recognize the King's unwavering support for preserving Highland dress and Scottish tartan culture.

The unique tartan is based on the Balmoral tartan set from 1850, which is still worn by the King and other members of the Royal Family today.

It has been officially registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, administered by the National Records of Scotland.

The fabric, woven entirely from Scottish wool by Loch Cairn of Scotland in Selkirk, features a central triple-stripe motif reminiscent of royal tartans previously worn by His Majesty.

The Royal Family's connection to the Braemar Gathering dates back to the mid-1800s when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert acquired the castle, sparking their enduring love for the event.

Today, it stands as a symbol of their lasting legacy.

Almost a year after Queen Elizabeth had to miss the Highland Games due to health concerns, her son, Charles, inaugurated the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Archway during last year's festival.

This archway serves as a tribute to Her Majesty's remarkable 70-year reign and her patronage of this world-famous event.

Although she couldn't attend in person, the late Queen participated virtually from Balmoral, as the events were streamed online.

It was a touching testament to her unwavering dedication to traditions and her enduring spirit that continues to inspire her family and the world.

As King Charles, Queen Camilla, Anne, and Sir Timothy Lawrence join the Braemar Gathering today, they do so with love, laughter, and remembrance, carrying forward the legacy of a beloved monarch who will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

The Highland Games, with its vibrant history and enduring traditions, serve as a fitting tribute to a remarkable Queen and a testament to the enduring spirit of royalty.
