Royal Laughter: Love Island Host Maya Jama’s Playful Exchange with King Charles
In a delightful and somewhat cheeky exchange at Buckingham Palace, Maya Jama, the vivacious host of Love Island, had a memorable encounter with King Charles.
The 29-year-old TV personality greeted the King, 75, and Queen Camilla, 76, during the Sovereign's Creative Industries Garden Party on Wednesday.
However, it wasn't just any ordinary greeting.
Maya had a royal apology to make.
“Nice to meet you.
Well, I've actually met you before, a long time ago.
About something with the Prince's trust and I touched you.
I wasn't supposed to.
This time I won't,” Maya confessed with a blend of humor and sincerity.
King Charles, known for his gracious demeanor, laughed and replied, “don't worry about it.”
Maya, seeking reassurance, asked, “you don't mind?
Yeah.”
To which the King chuckled, easing any lingering tension with his friendly response.
While there are no mandatory protocols when meeting a royal tradition, often suggests refraining from initiating contact unless the royal offers their arm.
Maya's previous breach of protocol was a minor mishap that clearly left an impression, but it was all in good spirits.
The conversation took an amusing turn when the King inquired about Maya's current endeavors.
“How are you getting on?”
he asked.
“I host Love Island.
I don't know if you watch that, though.
That's like a reality dating show.
That's what I do,” Maya explained.
King Charles, seemingly unfamiliar with the popular ITV2 dating show, responded with a touch of confusion, saying, “there's one born every minute,” referring to the Channel 4 documentary series that captures the experiences of a maternity ward.
Maya, ever the quick wit, simply replied, “there is.
Yeah.”
Following the event, Maya shared the humorous moment on Instagram, revealing a text exchange with a friend who teased her about her royal blunder, a gift that keeps on giving.
“I love the fact you said the words ‘I touched you, but I wasn't supposed to,' to the King of the United Kingdom,” her friend wrote.
Maya, laughing it off, replied, “lol, how do you know that?”
Only to be informed, “mate.
It's on Sky News.”
Maya looked stunning for the garden party in a blue pattern dress with her long, dark hair styled in loose waves.
She accessorized with a striking blue fascinator, black towering heels, and a matching handbag, making quite the fashionable statement.
King Charles, dressed to the nines in a three-piece suit featuring a gray blazer, matching trousers, a pink silk waistcoat, a patterned tie, and black polished shoes, looked every bit the distinguished monarch.
His ensemble was completed with a black top hat and an umbrella, showcasing his preparedness for the unpredictable British weather.
Notably, the King is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, making his presence at the event even more remarkable.
Queen Camilla complimented her husband in a sophisticated long-sleeved baby pink flared dress with fringe detailing exuding elegance and grace.
The garden party, held to celebrate the creative industries of the United Kingdom, gathered around 4,000 representatives from various fields, including culture, art, heritage, film, TV, radio, and fashion.
