Royal Fury: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Demands Dismissed Ahead of Platinum Jubilee
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry found themselves in a state of fury when their requests leading up to a significant royal event were swiftly turned down by the palace, as per a royal author.
The late Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her platinum jubilee in June 2022, marking an astonishing 70 years on the throne.
According to a renowned royal biographer, the couple's recent deal with Netflix prompted them to put forth certain demands regarding their involvement in the platinum jubilee festivities.
Tom Bower, in his book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors,” revealed that the Sussexes were left seething with anger after the palace rejected all of their requests for the jubilee weekend.
Despite jetting off to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games in April 2022, Meghan and Harry were still consumed by their fury over the palace's refusal to grant them a prominent role at the jubilee in exchange for their return to Britain with their children, as detailed by Bower.
In another revelation from the book, it was disclosed that Prince Charles, at that time, preferred that since the couple were now private citizens, they should not partake in the balcony appearance or ride in a royal carriage during the platinum jubilee.
In an attempt to secure a significant role during the celebrations, Harry sought permission to visit the Queen at Windsor, but the monarch redirected him to first meet his father, Charles, and Camilla.
Although they eventually met with the Queen later on, the issue of their participation on the balcony remained unresolved, with reports suggesting that they and their entourage underwent thorough checks for cameras, microphones, and other electronic devices.
Throughout the weekend, Harry and Meghan opted to maintain a low profile, attending only the two main events.
During the Trooping the Colour parade, the couple observed from the Major General's office, as non-working members of the royal family were not included in the traditional balcony appearance.
The following day, the Sussexes made their initial official public appearance in the UK since stepping back as senior royals, attending the National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.
Notably, Tom Bower highlighted a revealing comment made by the late Queen upon learning that Meghan Markle would not be present at Prince Philip's funeral.
This came at a challenging period for the royal family, occurring just a month after Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they made several startling allegations about the institution.
These included claims of family members speculating about their son's skin color, Princess Kate making Meghan cry before the wedding, and the palace spreading falsehoods about them.
The fallout from the interview strained relations between Harry, Meghan, and the rest of the family, leading to uncertainty regarding Meghan's attendance at the funeral.
At that time, Meghan was expecting their second child, and Covid restrictions were still in effect.
While the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone, Meghan chose to remain in California, while Harry traveled to London solo.
In his book, Bower mentioned the Queen's relief upon hearing that Meghan would not be present, with her reportedly expressing gratitude for the decision.
