Royal Titles Under Threat After Insensitive Stunt in Jamaica

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again facing demands to have their royal titles revoked following a controversial appearance in Jamaica.

Over the past four years, the couple has been at the center of numerous controversies that have led to calls for them to be stripped of their titles by critics of the royal family.

Despite stepping back from their roles as senior royals in early 2020, they still occasionally make reference to themselves as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, even though they are not allowed to use their HRH titles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines on Tuesday evening when they attended the premiere of the film “Bob Marley, One Love” in Jamaica.

Royal expert Phil Dampier expressed his concerns in the Daily Mail, stating that while attending a film premiere might seem harmless under normal circumstances, the timing was particularly insensitive given Prince Charles's health issues and Jamaica's discussions about breaking away from the monarchy.

The choice of location for the premiere, Jamaica, and the presence of the royal couple alongside Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness and his wife, have intensified the calls for Prince Harry and Meghan to lose their titles.

Prime Minister Holness has openly voiced his desire for Jamaica to become a republic independent of the British monarchy, especially with the uncertainty surrounding King Charles III's potential future as the head of state.

Anti-monarchist sentiments have been growing, with individuals like Hugh Small QC expressing strong opposition to the idea of King Charles becoming Jamaica's head of state.

The recent controversy surrounding the Sussexes also stems from the fallout of Omid Scobie's book “Endgame” and the suspicions of their involvement in its contents.

Amidst these tensions, concerns have arisen regarding the health of two senior members of the royal family, the Princess of Wales and King Charles.

As King Charles prepares for surgery to address an enlarged prostate, preparations are being made within the royal household to ensure a smooth transition should the need arise.

Notably, Prince Harry, despite being a royal councillor of state, has reportedly been excluded from any involvement due to his father's decision.

While the palace has not disclosed the exact date of King Charles's surgery, it is expected to take place this week, prompting arrangements to be made for the smooth continuation of royal affairs during his recovery.

However, the exclusion of Prince Harry and Prince Andrew from assuming any senior royal responsibilities during this period has been confirmed by a statement from Lord True, Leader of the Lords, indicating that only working members of the royal family will be called upon to act as councillors of state.

Royal Correspondent Kinsey Schofield emphasized that only a select few senior royals, including Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, Prince Hassan, and Prince Edward, are eligible to serve as councillors of state for King Charles.

Despite the upcoming hospitalization of the monarch, there will be no need for councillors of state to step in on his behalf, ensuring continuity within the royal family without the involvement of Prince Harry and others who are no longer considered active working members of the royal household.
