Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix Documentary Set to Air Soon
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's highly anticipated Netflix documentary is set to air within the coming weeks, according to industry sources.
Despite rumors that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were trying to delay its release until 2023, it appears that the streaming giant has prevailed, having reportedly paid the couple a staggering $100 million for the “Fly on the Wall” series.
While there have been conflicting reports in the US, with Deadline suggesting a delay until the New Year due to concerns over the backlash from season five of The Crown, Page Six now claims that the show will indeed go on in December.
Citing a source close to the project, the insider stated, “As far as I am aware, the docuseries is still going ahead later this year.”
The upcoming documentary has already made waves on both sides of the Atlantic, and it is expected to cause further turmoil within the royal family.
Experts believe that these bombshell projects, including Harry's memoir titled “Spare,” have hindered any chances of reconciliation with King Charles or Prince William.
However, following the Queen's passing, the Sussexes allegedly expressed a desire to downplay much of what they had previously said about Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales in their documentary series.
Meghan Markle even distanced herself and Harry from the controversial Netflix documentary about a month after Her Majesty's death.
In an interview, she mentioned that the direction of the documentary was now in the hands of left-leaning filmmaker Liz Garbus, acknowledging that it may not be told exactly as they would have wanted.
She stated, “We're trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”
Garbus, a seasoned director known for her work in documentaries and films, was also involved in the scrapped Duchess series “Pearl” for Netflix.
She recently earned an Emmy nomination for helming the last season of the popular TV drama “The Handmaid's Tale,” which is based on Margaret Atwood's feminist novel and explores themes of oppression and resistance.
Despite previous reports suggesting a delay, it now appears that the docuseries will proceed as planned later this year.
Netflix executives were said to be concerned about the strong opposition to the series, but it seems they have decided to move forward with the release.
