Comedian Jimmy Carr Mocks Harry and Meghan on Big Fat Quiz 2023
In a recent episode of Big Fat Quiz 2023, comedian Jimmy Carr took a dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, drawing both laughter and controversy.
The British royal family has been under intense media scrutiny, and Carr's jokes added fuel to the fire.
Carr wasted no time in poking fun at Harry, who made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first British royal to give evidence in court in over a century.
“It's disgusting the way the press have tried to manipulate, gaslight, and control Harry.
I mean, who do they think they are?
Meghan?”
Carr quipped, setting the tone for the news segment.
The lack of disapproval from the panel and the audience in response to Carr's joke reflects the growing frustration with the ongoing drama surrounding the couple, often referred to as the “Harkles.”
The show even featured actor Charles Dance reading an excerpt from a book that humorously mentioned Harry's frozen “todger,” adding to the public ridicule faced by the couple.
This is not the first time Meghan has been the target of jokes.
Carr previously mocked her during an episode of The Last Leg, where he humorously criticized Meghan's role in the Harry and Meghan documentary.
“I watched it.
There are some revelations in there.
I didn't realize Harry's mum was Diana.
If you haven't seen it, cover your ears because there's a spoiler.
She dies,” Carr joked, followed by an uneasy audience reaction.
Carr continued to playfully tease the couple, highlighting the irony of Meghan's request for privacy while participating in a Netflix documentary.
“Here's the thing, if you want privacy, don't do a documentary for Netflix.
Do it for Britbox,” Carr cleverly suggested, earning louder laughter from the studio.
While Meghan has expressed her dislike for negative media attention, Omid Scobie, a royal expert, claimed that Harry can take comedic commentary in stride.
Scobie discussed Harry's reaction to the public's response to his memoir, Spare, during an interview for Endgame.
“There are obviously things in the book that were great stand-up fodder,” Scobie said.
“From what I understand, Harry gets it, he got it.
I don't think there were any hurt feelings about that.”
Scobie further emphasized that being the subject of late-night monologues and skits is a sign of success for public figures like Harry.
However, the controversial anecdote about Harry getting frostbite on his genitals, included in Spare, caused quite a stir on the internet.
Scobie mentioned that Harry seemed unfazed by the reaction, but conservative commentator Megyn Kelly suggested that South Park's recent episode mocking the Sussexes had a significant impact on their reputation.
Kelly stated, “I feel this is a pronouncement that they've jumped the shark.
They're not loved, and her hopes of running for president are all but dashed.”
It seems that the couple's popularity has taken a hit, and any political aspirations Meghan may have had are now uncertain.
The constant media scrutiny and public mockery have undoubtedly added to the challenges faced by Harry and Meghan.
While they continue to navigate their way through the spotlight, it remains to be seen how their reputation will evolve and whether they can regain the public's favor.
