Prince William’s Popularity Remains High Despite Bombshell Allegations, Poll Reveals
Prince William's popularity has not been significantly affected by the shocking allegations made by his brother Prince Harry in his tell-all memoir, Spare.
The Duke of Sussex's relationship with the Prince of Wales has deteriorated over the past few years, and Harry's memoir only worsened the situation.
The book revealed physical altercations between the brothers, which may have portrayed William in a negative light.
However, data from the first quarter of 2023 shows that the public's opinion of William remains largely unchanged.
According to YouGov polling of 1,229 British citizens, 65% of respondents expressed a favorable view of Prince William, while only 17% disliked him.
This gives him a net popularity rating of plus 48.
Although this figure has slightly decreased from the data collected in the previous quarter, where William had a net popularity rating of plus 50, it is still comparable to other members of the Royal Family.
Similarly, William's wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, continues to be liked by 65% of Britons, with just 8% expressing dislike, resulting in an impressive net popularity rating of plus 57.
In contrast, the data presents a different picture for the Sussexes, who have stepped back from their royal duties and settled in Montecito, California.
During the first quarter of 2023, Harry was liked by only 29% of Britons and disliked by 51%, resulting in a net popularity rating of minus 22.
Meghan Markle fared even worse, with only 23% of Brits expressing a favorable view and 50% expressing dislike, giving her a net popularity rating of minus 27.
These figures suggest that Harry's autobiography may not have had the intended impact on the public's perception.
In his highly anticipated book, Prince Harry explained how his relationship with his brother deteriorated due to his marriage to Meghan.
Harry claimed that William referred to Meghan as difficult, rude, and abrasive, echoing the negative portrayal of her in the press.
In a more shocking revelation, Harry alleged that William physically assaulted him, grabbing him by the collar, ripping his necklace, and knocking him to the floor.
Meghan later noticed scrapes and bruises on Harry's back, leading him to disclose the alleged attack.
While Meghan was not entirely surprised or angry, she was deeply saddened by the incident.
Despite these revelations, Harry expressed a desire to mend his relationship with his family, which has been strained by the public exposure of their private lives.
In an interview with ITV, he stated, “I would like to get my father back, I would like to have my brother back.”
However, it remains uncertain whether reconciliation is possible after such a public fallout.
