David Byron Criticizes Meghan and Harry for Insulting Dumbarton Locals and Rejecting Title
Grammy-winning musician, David Byron, has expressed his disappointment at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for their recent comments about the locals of Dumbarton.
The couple, who are now based in the United States, decided not to give their son, Archie, the title of Earl of Dumbarton due to concerns of potential bullying.
However, their decision has caused a stir in Scotland, particularly in the town of Dumbarton itself.
As the Earl of Dumbarton himself, Prince Harry's son is eligible to inherit the title.
According to The Telegraph, Archie had the option of being named Earl of Dumbarton as a member of the royal line of succession.
When Harry and Meghan got married, the Queen bestowed upon them several titles, including Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, and Baron and Baroness Kilkeel.
However, the couple rejected the title for their child out of fear that it could lead to teasing.
A source close to the couple revealed that they didn't want Archie to be called the Earl of Dumbarton because the word “dumb” could potentially be used as an insult.
In the United States, where they now reside, the word is commonly used as slang for “stupid” or “daft.”
This concern was not only shared by Meghan but also bothered Harry.
Instead, Archie is simply referred to as Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Although this decision was made to protect their son, it has caused some controversy in Dumbarton.
David Byron, a Grammy Award-winning musician and native of Dumbarton, was one of the first to criticize Meghan and Harry for their thoughtless remarks.
He expressed his disappointment, stating, “I find them really shallow, while making all the people of Dumbarton feel awkward.
They don't deserve this place.
I hope the government can quickly remove the family's title.”
Dumbarton holds a special place in David Byron's heart, as it is his birthplace.
He is a renowned Scottish-American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor, writer, music theorist, visual artist, and filmmaker.
Best known as the founding member and principal songwriter of the new wave band Talking Heads, Byron has achieved great success throughout his career.
He has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, a special Tony Award, and a Golden Globe.
Additionally, he is an inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of Talking Heads.
Twitter users have come to the defense of Dumbarton, with one person stating that most of the locals couldn't care less about the royal titles and cannot relate to them.
Another simply expressed their pride in being from Dumbarton.
Even those who are not from the town have shown support for the community, with one person sarcastically commenting, “I'm sure those in Dumbarton are feeling the love tonight.”
Dumbarton, located near Glasgow on the north bank of the River Clyde, has a rich history.
It was founded in the 5th century and served as the capital of the ancient kingdom of Strathclyde.
The town became a royal borough in 1222.
Dumbarton Castle, a well-known landmark in the area, has played significant roles as a military fortress and royal living quarters.
In 1548, Mary Queen of Scots sought protection at the castle before traveling to France for her marriage.
Throughout the 19th century, Dumbarton thrived as a hub for Scottish trade, particularly in shipbuilding, glassmaking, and whiskey production.
