Princess Catherine’s Risky Christmas Gift to Late Queen Elizabeth
The holiday season is a time of joy and festivities, but it also brings the annual challenge of finding the perfect Christmas present.
For Princess Catherine, this challenge becomes even more daunting when the recipient is none other than the late Queen Elizabeth.
In a recent revelation, Catherine shared the tale of her riskiest Christmas gift, which had the potential to go horribly wrong.
Attending the royal family's Christmas celebrations at Sandringham has become a cherished tradition for Princess Catherine, who is the wife of Prince William and the future Queen.
However, it wasn't until their wedding in 2011 that she started participating in these regal festivities.
Catherine has openly spoken about her initial apprehensions, especially when it came to selecting Christmas presents for her royal in-laws.
But it was Queen Elizabeth who caused her the most anxiety.
During a documentary commemorating the late monarch's 90th birthday in 2016, Catherine revealed her worries about what to give the Queen as her special Christmas present.
She recalled, “I can remember being at Sandringham for the first time at Christmas and I was worried about what to give the Queen as her Queen's present.
I was thinking, gosh, what should I give her?”
In a daring move, Catherine decided to create a homemade gift inspired by her grandmother's chutney recipe.
She admitted, “I thought I'll make her something which could have gone horribly wrong but I decided to make my granny's recipe for chutney.”
To her relief, her handmade creation made its way to the royal table and turned out to be a surprising success.
Reflecting on the experience, Catherine shared her feelings of worry and relief.
“I was slightly worried about it but I noticed the next day that it was on the table.
I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me, and I've noticed since she's done that on lots of occasions.
It just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
As the royal family prepares to gather at Sandringham for this year's festivities under the reign of King Charles, Catherine's Christmas chutney tale adds a delightful touch to the spirit of the season.
