Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Royal Family’s Turmoil: The Untold Story
Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, passed away at the age of 96 on September 8th.
Her death has opened up a Pandora's box of revelations about the royal family, particularly concerning Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
In her book titled “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown,” author Katie Nicole claims that both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry rejected the Queen's invitation to visit her at Balmoral Castle, not once but twice.
Despite the tensions that followed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's departure from the royal family, Queen Elizabeth maintained a close relationship with her grandson and his young family.
According to Nicole, the Queen wanted to keep the Sussexes connected to the royal family and enjoyed video calls with Harry, Meghan, and their two children, three-year-old Archie Harrison and one-year-old Lilibet Diana.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their senior roles within the royal family and relocated to North America in early 2020.
Since then, they have only returned to the UK three times, briefly visiting in April for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and later for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
However, according to Nicole, the Queen was hurt by the Sussexes' actions at certain points.
Speaking on the weekly royal podcast “Today For,” Nicole revealed that there were times when Queen Elizabeth felt let down and disappointed by Harry and Meghan.
She would always invite them to a big sleepover at the end of August, but they didn't attend in the last couple of summers.
Not being together during Christmas and missing out on gatherings at Balmoral also deeply affected the Queen.
It is worth noting that Harry and Meghan have not spent Christmas with the royal family since 2019 when they decided to spend the festive season in Canada with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.
In January 2020, the couple announced their decision to step back from royal duties and move to the United States.
Since then, they have spent their Christmases in the US and declined the Queen's invitation to spend the summer at Balmoral.
Reports suggest that the Sussexes were welcome to stay with Prince Charles at Balmoral this summer, but they declined the invitation.
Despite the attacks and criticisms they faced, Prince Charles remained open to reconciling with Harry and Meghan.
He saw it as an opportunity for the whole family to come together, relax, and take stock.
However, the invitation was turned down.
These reports came ahead of Harry and Meghan's visit to Europe, during which they worked with charities in the UK and attended the Invictus Games event in Germany.
Initially, the couple had no plans to visit the members of the royal family, but the death of Queen Elizabeth extended their stay.
They joined the UK-based royals in mourning the loss of their matriarch and monarch.
Harry immediately traveled to Balmoral Castle upon hearing the news of his grandmother's passing.
He reunited with his family, including his father and older brother, but returned to England the following morning.
This marked his first visit to the Scottish estate since his royal exit.
Miss Nicole reveals in her book that the prince had declined his grandmother's invitation to spend time at Balmoral in 2019, months before announcing their departure.
It raised eyebrows when Harry and Meghan declined the Queen's invite to spend a long weekend at Balmoral in the summer of 2019.
Instead, they chose to take Archie to Ibiza and the south of France.
The Queen was disappointed by their distance from the royal family, but she still wanted to keep the family together.
According to Nicole, the Queen's instinct was to protect Harry.
The question that arises is whether Harry and Meghan regret their decision now or if they simply don't care about the consequences.
Only time will tell.
In the meantime, we can only speculate and wait to see how things unfold.
