Meghan and Harry’s Children Stripped of HRH Titles in Latest Royal Move

In a surprising turn of events, Prince Charles has issued letters patent that effectively strip Archie and Lily, the children of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, of their HRH titles.

This move comes as Charles aims to limit the number of key royals in the future, a plan he had previously mentioned in 2021.

To amend Archie and Lily's rights to have HRH titles, Charles had to issue these letters patent.

Up until now, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana have not been officially referred to by their new titles in public.

However, this changed when a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that one-year-old Lilibet had been christened.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement confirming the christening, which took place on Friday, March 3rd, conducted by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, Rev.

John Taylor.

Despite this, the Sussex children will not be given HRH status.

When Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals, it was decided that they would no longer be able to use their HRH titles.

Consequently, it is highly unlikely that their children will inherit these coveted titles either.

As royal correspondent Katie Nicole explained, “They wouldn't be getting the HRH titles anyway because they wouldn't be able to use it because Harry and Meghan can't.

But Prince and Princess are going to carry a lot more weight, of course, in America with what they do.”

She also highlighted the security concerns associated with such titles.

Nicole further emphasized that the title of Duke is rightfully owed to Harry as the son of the Sovereign.

According to the current rules, the children of the Sovereign's sons should also hold this title.

Nicole referred to the 1917 letters patent, which states, “The children of any Sovereign of these realms and the children of the sons of any such Sovereign…shall have and at all times hold and enjoy the style, title, or attribute of Royal Highness with their titular dignity of Prince or Princess.”

Interestingly, following Queen Elizabeth II's passing, Archie and Lilibet remained styled as Master and Miss on the official royal website, while their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis saw their titles change.

Historian Marlene Coeing explained that the late Queen had previously issued a letter patent granting the HRH Prince or Princess titles to all children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales.

However, she did not include Harry's future children in this grant.

Last year, it was reported that Harry expressed his desire for his children to decide whether they wanted to retain their titles when they were older.

However, this request could only be fulfilled if they were allowed to keep their titles now.

The conversation regarding this matter ended unresolved, leaving the Sussexes dismayed.

For those unfamiliar with the term, letters patent are legal instruments issued by a monarch or head of state, granting various rights, titles, or statuses to individuals or corporations.

In this case, Charles used letters patent to alter Archie and Lily's rights to have HRH titles.

In a recent announcement confirming Lilibet's christening, Meghan and Harry referred to their children by their royal titles for the first time.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated, “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet was christened on Friday, March 3rd, by the Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, Reverend John Taylor.”

It was reported that King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales were invited to the ceremony but did not attend.

With this latest development, it is clear that Archie and Lily will not be able to carry the HRH titles traditionally associated with their royal lineage.

The decision by Prince Charles to issue letters patent has effectively altered their future within the royal family, leaving them with the titles of Prince and Princess, which may hold more weight in their new American home.
