Gina Torres Takes a Dig at Meghan Markle’s Absence from Suits Cast
The popular legal drama series, Suits, which features Meghan Markle in its first eight seasons, was recently released on Netflix.
Coincidentally, the show debuted on June 17th, the same day as King Charles's birthday parade.
This timing led many royal observers to speculate that the Duchess of Sussex had a hand in selecting the release date.
Some even suggested it was a deliberate move to coincide with the parade.
Suits follows a familiar format of legal dramas, blending weekly cases with ongoing storylines about the lawyers' maneuverings.
In this regard, it shares similarities with other shows such as The Good Wife, The Good Fight, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, LA Law, and How to Get Away with Murder.
However, what's perplexing is that Netflix seems to have completely ignored Meghan's involvement in the series.
There are no mentions of her name or images associated with the show on the streaming platform.
One might wonder if the producers of Suits now regret casting a well-known actress like Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane.
Initially, her fame didn't pose a problem since she was sixth on the call list.
However, everything changed after the Royal Wedding, which brought them significant publicity.
Now, it appears they are facing serious difficulties due to various controversies.
While Netflix is trying to distance itself from these issues, there might be pressure on the show's creators to fabricate more stories about the British royal family.
Netflix's description of the series, without mentioning Meghan, reads: “Suits falls into this category thanks to principal cast members Adams, Mack, Torres, Rafferty, and Hoffman.”
Despite the omission, the original cast members have shown their support for the show through their social media accounts.
Sarah Rafferty, for example, shared a photo of two male actors from the show and tagged her co-stars, unintentionally excluding Meghan.
Similarly, Patrick J. Adams, another cast member, referred to Suits on his social media without mentioning Meghan.
However, it is worth noting that Gina Torres, a co-star whom Meghan has praised and shown affection for in the past, took a surprising dig at the Duchess.
Torres shared a screenshot of the Netflix screen featuring the cover of Suits, but Meghan was conspicuously absent from the image.
In an interview with People TV, Torres discussed Meghan's royal journey with host Jeremy Parsons.
She revealed that their paths had diverged even before Meghan's relationship with Prince Harry.
During the interview, when Parsons mentioned Meghan's new title as the Duchess of Sussex, Torres jokingly responded, “I'm sorry, what?
Really?
I've been a bit busy.
I have heard rumors.”
When asked about Meghan as a mother, Torres expressed her belief that motherhood would be a dream come true for the Duchess.
This statement suggests that despite any differences or distance between them, Torres still holds positive sentiments towards Meghan.
The absence of Meghan Markle from the Suits cast and the subtle jabs taken by some of her former co-stars have raised questions about the dynamics between the two sides.
