King Charles Faces Uncertainty Over Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Attendance at Coronation

has received praise for his handling of the standoff with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex regarding their attendance at his and the Queen's consorts coronation.

With less than a month to go until the historic event at Westminster Abbey on May 6th, it remains unclear whether the Sussexes will be present.

Despite Charles expressing his desire for his youngest son and his wife to be part of the proceedings, their silence has only increased doubts about their transatlantic travel plans.

The monarch's approach has been commended for putting the ball in the Sussexes' court, but it could backfire if they do attend the service.

Reports suggest that Buckingham Palace has not been informed of their plans, causing headaches for the coronation organizers in terms of seating arrangements, transportation, and security.

Nevertheless, a royal source told the Sunday Express that Charles will not grovel or beg to convince them to come.

Former BBC Royal correspondent Michael Cole supported this stance, highlighting reasons why may choose not to attend such a significant event.

Cole mentioned the possibility of embarrassment over his previous criticisms of the royal family, which were deemed unfair, as well as the potential awkwardness of facing those he had maligned, including his stepmother , who will be crowned alongside his father.

Cole further noted that played his cards right with the vexatious Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the beginning.

By extending an invitation to Harry and Meghan, he placed the decision in their hands.

If they declined, they would appear mean-spirited, but if they accepted, they would face accusations of hypocrisy.

After stepping down from their working roles in January 2020, Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito, California with their children, and Lily.

However, the couple's youngest two grandchildren have not been invited to the coronation.

The Sussexes' appearance at the King and Queen's coronation has sparked much debate, particularly following their controversial Netflix documentary and Harry's forthcoming autobiography.

These revelations shed light on Meghan's treatment within the royal family and Harry's strained relationships with his father and brother.

Concerns have grown regarding their attendance, especially as it coincides with 's fourth birthday.

Additionally, it was revealed that the King and Queen will celebrate their coronation by appearing on the Buckingham Palace Balcony solely with the working royals, indicating a vision of a slimmed-down monarchy.
