Meghan Markle’s Book “The Bench” Receives Criticism as Andy Cohen Attacks it in New Book
In a surprising turn of events, Andy Cohen, the well-known television personality and producer, has taken a swipe at Meghan Markle's children's book, “The Bench,” in his newly released book, “Daddy Diaries.”
Cohen, who is famous for his involvement in reality TV shows like “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” revealed that he had decided not to invite Markle to appear on his show, “Watch What Happens Live.”
The reason behind this decision, according to Cohen, was his belief that the TV series she starred in, “Suits,” appeared to him as a simulation rather than a genuine portrayal of real life.
“Daddy Diaries,” which chronicles Cohen's experiences throughout 2022, delves into his journey as a single father raising his four-year-old son, Ben, and his newborn daughter via a surrogate.
The book also explores his personal struggles with finding true love and overseeing renovations on his New York City home, known as Hampton House.
Throughout the pages, Cohen shares anecdotes and interactions with his celebrity friends, including Kelly Ripa, Sarah Jessica Parker, John Benjamin Hickey, Anderson Cooper, and Amy Sedaris.
This recent criticism from Cohen is not the first time he has expressed his disapproval of Markle's book.
Earlier, he had posted a tweet on his personal account, stating, “It's mind-boggling how bad this book is.”
This tweet was quickly captured by an observant fan, highlighting Cohen's negative opinion.
Critics of “The Bench” have also panned the book, describing it as a vanity project and a bland self-help manual for parents in need.
“The Bench,” priced at £12.99, was inspired by a poem Markle wrote for Prince Harry on his first Father's Day after the birth of their son, Archie.
The book explores the special bond between fathers and sons, as seen through a mother's eyes.
However, upon its release in 2021, it failed to generate the same level of excitement as its launch announcement had suggested.
Critics pointed out various flaws in the 40-page story, with one review highlighting its failure to engage its intended audience, children.
Instead, it seemed to read more like a self-help guide for struggling parents.
The criticism surrounding “The Bench” also extends to the alleged hidden messages within the book.
Some have speculated that Markle included coded references, such as Prince Harry depicted in his old military uniform, as a subtle message to the Queen.
These theories have only added fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding the Duchess of Sussex and her actions.
Returning to Cohen's book, he acknowledges his love for the drama and entertainment industry but recognizes its place in his life.
He explains, “I think the reason I created a family is because I knew, look, I'm so enmeshed in what I do for a living, and I love it so much.
But I know that's not the be-all and end-all.”
Cohen emphasizes that despite his involvement in the frivolity and drama, having a family has grounded him and provided a sense of stability.
As opinions continue to clash over Meghan Markle's book and Andy Cohen's recent critique, it is evident that both individuals have made significant contributions to their respective fields.
