Land Rover Cuts Deal with Sussexes for African Tour
Range Rovers have been shipped from the UK to South Africa for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 10-day tour, it was revealed today.
The decision to bring in the 4x4s was made because the palace organizers were unable to find locally secure enough vehicles suitable for Harry, Meghan, and baby Archie.
The cars for the trip were offered by Jaguar Land Rover and were transported at no cost to the taxpayer, according to the press association.
However, the transportation of the vehicles over a 10,000-mile distance has raised concerns about the couple's green credentials, despite their promotion of environmental issues.
Although numerous firms in South Africa offer luxury armored Land Rovers for rent, the manufacturer has been providing vehicles for the royal family, including during foreign visits, for decades.
During her visit to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Meghan was seen arriving in a British registered blue Range Rover.
This move comes after Tata Motors, which owned Land Rover at the time, reported a decline in retail sales in the quarter ended that year.
Sales of the brand were down, and everything seemed bad for Land Rover when they chose the wrong ambassador in Meghan and Harry.
The company had to cancel their contract and even provide compensation.
However, Land Rover has found a much better royal face to represent its brand.
Zara Phillips, the brand ambassador for Land Rover, recently took delivery of a new Range Rover, a Volk, while competing at the Burgerly horse trials.
As one of the UK's leading equestrian figures, Zara expressed her excitement about receiving the keys to her new car, saying, “I've grown up around Land Rovers and have been an ambassador for the brand for several years.
I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of my new Volk.
It looks absolutely fantastic, and I'm delighted to be the first person in the UK to take delivery of one.”
Land Rover's popularity continues to grow, with the total order book reaching almost two lakh units as of December 2022, up by approximately 32,000 orders from March 2022.
The company highlighted strong demand for the new Range Rover, with over 62,000 orders.
The new Range Rover Evoque and Defender also saw significant interest, with 20,000 and 46,000 orders respectively.
This news comes after Harry and Meghan faced criticism in August for taking private jets instead of commercial flights, despite their advocacy for environmental issues.
Harry, who has expressed concerns about climate change, previously stated that he would have a maximum of two children.
In an interview with British Vogue, he said, “What we need to remind everyone is that these are things that are happening now.
We're already living in it.
We're the frog in the water, and it's already been brought to the boil, which is terrifying.”
In September, Harry defended their occasional private flights, citing the need to keep his family safe.
However, the couple faced backlash for their alleged hypocrisy, as they campaigned on green issues while using private jets.
Given the high levels of carjacking in South Africa, palace officials prioritized the safety of the couple during their tour of the country.
