Prince Harry Loses Bid in Libel Claim Over UK Security Arrangements

's legal battle against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) took another turn as he lost his bid to defend his libel claim.

The lawsuit stems from a February 2022 article that discussed Harry's challenge against the UK government's decision to remove his security detail when he relocated to the United States.

The High Court judge has now ruled that ANL can proceed with an honest opinion defense and a trial.

ANL's defense includes the claim that made misleading statements about his willingness to pay for his own security.

Prince Harry's lawyers argue that the article attacked his honesty and integrity by suggesting he tried to keep the details of his legal battle hidden from the public.

In June 2022, a High Court judge found parts of the article to be defamatory, concluding that they gave readers the impression that Prince Harry intentionally misled the public.

However, ANL is contesting the claim, asserting that the article expressed an honest opinion and did not cause serious harm to Harry's reputation.

They also maintain that Harry made false claims about his willingness to pay for police protection in the UK.

During a hearing in March, Prince Harry sought to strike down ANL's honest opinion defense or obtain a judgment in his favor.

However, in a written ruling on Friday, Mr. Justice Nicklin granted ANL's defense the green light to proceed to trial.

In his judgment, Mr. Justice Nicklin stated that there is a real possibility that ANL will succeed in demonstrating a misleading description of the issues in the judicial review claim.

The controversy surrounding Prince Harry's security arrangements stems from his claim that he felt compelled to step back from his royal duties and leave the UK in 2020 due to security concerns.

Critics have challenged this assertion, pointing to a past interview where Harry stated that he never particularly liked England.

“I never want to sit down in the Windsors because I generally don't like England that much,” Prince Harry said during his time in the army.

This clip resurfaced recently and was shared by a netizen in response to Harry's security protection hearing.

The netizen expressed anger and accused Prince Harry of being a habitual liar who changes his story to win court cases.

The public's reaction to the ongoing legal battle has been mixed.

Some users on social media expressed frustration with Harry's perceived victim mentality and accused him of willingly leaving the royal family for personal reasons.

Others criticized him for allegedly attempting to rewrite history and questioned his sincerity in the matter.

However, there were also those who defended Prince Harry and believed that the decision to leave the royal family was forced upon him and his wife, .

As the legal proceedings continue, Prince Harry's libel claim against ANL remains a highly contentious issue.

The trial will provide an opportunity for both sides to present their arguments and evidence in court, ultimately determining the outcome of this ongoing dispute.
