Meghan and Harry Decline Queen's Christmas Invitation, Opt for US Holiday
Queen Elizabeth is set to face a challenging Christmas as she copes with the absence of her husband of 73 years and ongoing health issues.
However, her grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have decided not to spend the holidays with the 95-year-old monarch.
Despite receiving an invitation from the Queen, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to celebrate Christmas in the US with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Last year, Meghan, 40, and Harry, 37, were unable to attend due to Covid restrictions.
This marks the second consecutive year that the couple will be absent during the festive season.
The Queen's first Christmas without Prince Philip will be further compounded by concerns over her own health.
She recently withdrew from several important events, including the Remembrance Sunday service.
A source revealed, “There's a lot that goes into the logistics and planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming.
If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now.
But this is Her Majesty's first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”
Last year, the Royal Family did not gather at Sandringham due to Covid restrictions, and the Queen spent the holiday in a lockdown bubble with Prince Philip at Windsor Castle.
Unfortunately, Prince Philip passed away in April at the age of 99, just two months before his 100th birthday.
It is speculated that Meghan and Harry are avoiding spending Christmas with the Queen to avoid attracting media attention for their travel from California to the UK.
An insider stated, “I think everyone understands there will be a frenzy when they both come back to the UK, but they need to rip the band-aid off and get on with it.”
Traditionally, the Queen spends Christmas at Sandringham, her country estate, where she attends a church service with her family.
However, concerns for the Queen's health have been growing, as she recently spent a night in the hospital for an undisclosed medical issue and missed Remembrance Sunday due to a back sprain.
Despite this, Meghan and Harry are reportedly planning to attend the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which will celebrate her remarkable 70-year reign.
Nevertheless, another source hopes they reconsider, stating, “If that is the first time they are back in the country since Megxit, and they suck all the oxygen from the Queen, that will be just terrible.”
The Queen will undoubtedly be disappointed that Meghan and Harry will not be by her side during Christmas, especially considering she has yet to meet their newborn daughter, Lilibet.
As we hope and pray for the Queen's recovery from her current health issues, let us also hope that they do not overshadow her Christmas.
It has been almost a month since the Queen has been seen carrying out in-person engagements.
However, Prince Charles provided an update on his mother's health during his visit to Jordan, saying, “She's all right, thank you very much.
Once you get to 95, it's not quite as easy as it used to be.
It's bad enough at 73.”
In conclusion, Meghan and Harry's decision to decline the Queen's Christmas invitation has left her facing a challenging holiday season.
As she copes with the loss of her husband and ongoing health issues, the absence of her grandson and his family adds to her burden.
While the couple plans to celebrate Christmas in the US, concerns remain about the impact of their return to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
We can only hope that the Queen's health improves, allowing her to enjoy the holiday season despite these setbacks.
