Meghan Markle Snubs Vancouver Locals and Charity by Rejecting Gifted Pendant

, the Duchess of Sussex, made headlines recently when she refused to wear a pendant gifted to her by Vancouver locals and the charity Justice for Girls (JFG).

Markle, known for her advocacy for women's rights, returned to visit JFG, a charity that supports teenage girls living in poverty, for the second time in three years.

However, her actions during this visit have raised eyebrows and sparked controversy.

Justice for Girls, founded in 1999, has been recognized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2009.

The organization praised Markle for her dedication to advocating for the rights of girls and women, stating that she has been passionate about these issues since her own childhood.

During Markle's previous visit to JFG in January 2020, she was gifted a gold and diamond pendant in the shape of a whale-tin.

The pendant was specially made by local jeweler Holly Bartlett, a member of the Heisler tribe.

At the time, Markle seemed pleased with the gift, and the charity's co-director, Zoe Craig Sparrow, commended her for making everyone feel at ease.

However, during her recent visit in 2023, Markle conspicuously chose not to wear the pendant.

Instead, she made sure to showcase her other jewelry.

This decision has led to speculation that she may have sold or disregarded the pendant altogether.

Critics argue that as a self-proclaimed feminist, Markle should have embraced the symbolic and beautiful work of art, especially considering its significance to the indigenous jeweler and the girls supported by JFG.

This incident also raises concerns about how Markle would interact with indigenous partners at future events, such as the Invictus Games in 2025.

By neglecting to wear the pendant, Markle missed an opportunity to demonstrate her commitment to the causes she claims to support.

Furthermore, Markle's behavior stands in contrast to the actions of other members of the royal family.

The late Queen, , their children, spouses, and even grandchildren have long understood the power of wearing jewelry, clothing, and accessories sourced from the places they visit.

A simple brooch or pair of earrings can convey a powerful message and set the tone for diplomatic relationships.

In this regard, Markle's failure to appreciate the significance of the pendant is seen as a reflection of her self-centered approach.

Critics argue that Markle's visit to JFG was nothing more than a photo opportunity, lacking any genuine long-term commitment to the organization.

They claim that she has not been working behind the scenes or engaging in related work in the US, making her visits seem superficial and insincere.

Instead of actively contributing to the cause, Markle is accused of using these visits as a way to bolster her image and maintain a connection to her royal past.

Skeptics also point out that Markle's presence at JFG was not initially planned or invited.

She reportedly had her maid call and showed up unannounced, seemingly to reinforce the narrative that she and are still connected to the royal family while asserting their independence.
