Meghan Markle Denied Wearing Spencer Tiara at Royal Wedding
Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, was not permitted to wear the iconic Spencer tiara during her wedding to Prince Harry.
This decision came as no surprise, as she was marrying into the royal family rather than the Spencer family.
Although her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, was born a Spencer, neither of her sons, Prince William nor Prince Harry, carry the Spencer surname.
They are members of the royal family, known as the Windsors.
Furthermore, Meghan herself is not a blood relative of the Spencers.
In his book Revenge, acclaimed author and journalist Tom Bower revealed that Prince William and his wife, Catherine, were left puzzled by Harry's assertion that Meghan embodied his late mother.
A tweet from a Megazetteer named Robin Lynn King drew attention to another tweet from Sussex Squatty Myra, believed to be Meghan herself.
In the tweet, Meghan claimed that the Queen's staff gave her a hard time about her choice of wedding tiara.
She further stated that the Spencers offered her the Spencer tiara, and a wedding veil was designed to complement it.
However, when the Queen realized the negative impact this could have on the royal family's image, she intervened.
This information aligns with what Harry later wrote in his memoir Spare, where he mentioned that his mother's family had indeed offered Meghan the Spencer tiara.
He also claimed that the edges of her veil were designed to match the scalloped edges of the tiara.
These details were reported by the Sussex's favored publication, which intends to sue the Daily Mail.
It should be noted that while Diana did not personally own the tiara, it was a cherished heirloom passed down through generations of Spencer women.
Diana's sisters, Baroness Jane Fellows and Lady Sarah MacCorgdale, also wore the tiara on their wedding days.
The question arises as to why Meghan was allowed to wear the tiara while Catherine was not.
According to Tom Bower's book, Harry believed that his aunts and uncles approved of Meghan, seeing her as a reflection of their late sister.
However, it appears that their sentiments were quite the opposite.
It is doubtful that Meghan was ever offered the Spencer tiara.
Additionally, the claim made by Harry that the Queen pleaded with Meghan to wear one of the royal tiaras is most likely false.
Such behavior would be out of character for the late monarch.
Although Meghan never had the opportunity to meet Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry hoped that his mother's family would see similarities between her and Meghan.
Unfortunately, this was not the case.
In Revenge, Bower discusses Harry's introduction of Meghan to Diana's sisters, Baroness Jane Fellows and Lady Sarah MacCorgdale, as well as her friend Julia Samuel.
Harry had assumed they would recognize shared struggles between Diana and Meghan, but they did not agree.
Furthermore, they believed Meghan would not integrate well into the royal family.
Bower goes on to reveal that Prince William urged Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, to voice their siblings' concerns.
This act reportedly incited a bitter reaction from Prince Harry.
Spencer, who has been married three times, cautioned his nephew to reconsider the haste of his marriage.
This advice did not sit well with Harry, leading to a strained relationship between the two.
In conclusion, Meghan Markle was denied the opportunity to wear the Spencer tiara at her wedding to Prince Harry.
Despite claims made by Harry and Meghan, it is unlikely that the Spencers offered her the tiara.
