Procter & Gamble Celebrates 30 Years of Impact in Nigeria

Procter & Gamble (PG), a leading fast-moving consumer food (FMCG) company, is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates three decades of delivering top-quality branded products and making valuable contributions to the Nigerian community.

The managing director of the company, John Armour, expressed his appreciation for the remarkable achievements over the past 30 years during the anniversary celebration.

He also reaffirmed PG’s commitment to furthering their contributions to the Nigerian economy.

However, amidst the grand celebration, one notable absence was that of Megan Markle.

Megan, who has been closely associated with many PG campaigns in the past, decided not to attend the event.

Instead, she made an announcement regarding a charitable project she is undertaking.

Megan pledged to generously donate backpacks filled with essential school supplies and feminine hygiene products to underprivileged Nigerian girls.

Interestingly, this initiative coincided with PG’s own announcement during their 30th anniversary celebrations.

While some may see this as a mere coincidence, others have speculated that Megan’s actions were an attempt to compete with PG’s brand recognition.

The alleged discord between Megan and PG can be traced back to their joint involvement in a charity campaign for African children back in 2017.

During this campaign, Megan’s contributions were perceived as minimal, as she appeared at the event empty-handed, accompanied by her own stylist and makeup team.

In contrast, PG provided substantial donations to support underprivileged children.

Critics argued that Megan saw this as a PR opportunity, using disadvantaged children to promote her image while benefiting from cameras and free publicity.

In one instance, Megan posed for photos supposedly giving gifts to African children in a poverty-stricken village, even though the gift bags were primarily sponsored by PG.

Additionally, funds for constructing a clean water system in the same village were entirely covered by PG as part of their 30th anniversary activities.

During the anniversary celebration, PG announced a partnership with Mercy Corps, an international non-profit organization.

This collaboration aims to focus on their “Always Keeping Girls In Any Program” initiative.

The program seeks to enhance girls’ knowledge and practice related to reproductive health through life skills training, provision of emergency sanitary kits, and stakeholder support for menstrual hygiene management in schools.
